Our Coaches

Mateja Maksimovic
Founder & Coach

Mateja was born and raised in Belgrade,Serbia.
He started playing water polo for Red Star at age of 5. Mateja played for professional team since the age of 15 and played for U15,U17,U18 National Team. While playing,he achieved over 20+ medals,6 National championships,3 National cups, 1 European National Tournament and being top scorer of the league multiple times. After high school,Mateja was recruited by Fresno Pacific University where he played one season and holds one of the single season most goals records. In 2012 Mateja is moving back to Serbia where he is playing his last career season for Red Start Professional team. After playing career, Mateja has coached and led “Sportska Gimnazija” High School to 2 National championships in a row. In 2016 Mateja is moving back to Sacramento and joining Bella Vista High School,leading them to Section Champions in season 2019/2020. In 2021 Mateja is joining water polo club California Republic and Granite Bay High School. Mateja is currently working as a water polo referee and coach, actively involved in player development and competitive match officiating.


Milorad Micha Pavlovic
CO-Founder & Coach

Micha has been involved in water polo as an athlete since 1991. Playing career included Partizan WPC (Belgrade, Serbia), Red Star WPC (Belgrade, Serbia), Serbian Youth Team, Atwater, Merced College, and Fresno Pacific University. As a member of the Partizan WPC’s age group program, Micha won 5 state championships, 3 national championships, and 2 European championships. At the age of 17, Micha transferred to the rival club Red Star WPC in order to play for their senior team. After he moved to California, Micha earned MVP honors and 1st team All-American status in 2005 while playing for Merced College. After Merced, Micha transferred to Fresno Pacific University where he played water polo and swam. As the team captain at FPU, Micha led the water polo team to their first winning season. He also earned All-American status while swimming for FPU in 2008. Micha has competed in many Masters National Championships and he still plays water polo with other Praetorian masters athletes.

Micha was a co-founder and club director of Praetorian Masters Water Polo Club in 2012, before the program expanded into age group categories in 2017 to form Praetorian WPC. Currently, Micha is the 18U boys head coach and the club director. His teams have qualified for Junior Olympics each year, and in 2019, the 18U boys team have won 3rd place in bronze division. In his 16 year long coaching career, Micha has coached numerous All-Americans and he has sent over 60 athletes to various NCAA, NAIA and junior colleges.


Jasmin Halilovic
Program Coordinator

Jasmin Hlilovic, born 12.12.1977. in Belgrade, Serbia, has been working as a vaterpolo coach since 1995. He is engaged as a coach in Vaterpolo club Crvena zvezda (VC Red Star) for younger selections. VC Crvena Zvezda is a club of rich history and many accomplishments. Senior team has won LEN champions league, Supercup Eurpe, National championships od Serbia… As a coach he has won many medals with his teams in multiple national championships and cups of Yugoslavia, Serbia and Montenegro, and Serbia; and in several international tournaments. His work is based on enhancing performances and developing young players' tactical and technical skills, preparation for playing in the senior team and the National team of Serbia. In younger categories VC Crvena Zvezda he has been coaching some of players who are or have been very successful in cadet, youth and senior teams and in National selection of Serbia: Djordje Lazic (Olympics golden medal), Drasko Gogov, Rodoljub Gajic (European championship gold medal), Marko Radovic, Vuk Milojevic, Vladimir Misovic and Vasilije Martinovic (junior World and European champions), Viktor Savic (bronze world championship medal). Also, he has been associate to Dejan Savic as assistant coach in the senior team of VC Crvena Zvezda.


Nicholas Serratos
CO-Founder & Coach

Nicholas Serratos is an accomplished water polo coach and former NCAA Division I athlete with over a decade of coaching experience and a proven record of building competitive, fundamentally sound, team first programs. He currently serves as the Head Varsity Coach at Turlock High School and is the Founder and Director of Central Valley United Water Polo Club, overseeing athlete development, college recruiting pathways, and high-level training across multiple age groups. Nicholas previously coached at Gregori High School, where he helped transform a recreational-level program into a league champion and delivered one of the program’s most significant competitive milestones as the only team to beat Turlock High School in CCAL play. Across his head coaching career, he owns an overall record of 184–87, highlighted by back-to-back CIF Division I Section Semifinal appearances, six league championships, and a NorCal Regional Championship appearance. His teams are known for consistent improvement throughout the season, detailed preparation, and the ability to compete with top programs across California. A former standout player at Ceres High School, Nicholas holds the school records for single-season and career goals. He played collegiately at Fresno Pacific University, Modesto Junior College—where he was a First Team All-NorCal selection and Junior College All-American—and San José State University, where he served as team captain at the Division I level. His coaching philosophy emphasizes accountability, development, and preparing athletes to succeed in competitive environments both domestically and internationally.
